Shadow Planet (2023) evisits NASA’s Mars image archives from 2004 to 2023. Produced by rovers, drones, and satellite cameras, these images seek to map and systematize the planet, yet the film turns instead to the anomalies that disrupt this cartographic gaze: blanks, glitches, and ghostly dust storms. As Dust Devils repeatedly obscure the cameras and create blind spots in the image data, the film proposes that a war of vision may be unfolding between Mars’s invisible inhabitants and the camera apparatus observing the planet. Blending archival records with speculative fiction, the work reinterprets these blanks as a tactic.

〈쉐도우 플래닛〉은 2004년부터 2023년까지 기록된 NASA의 화성 아카이브를 다시 들여다본다. 로버와 드론, 위성 카메라가 생산한 이 이미지들은 행성을 지도화하고 체계화하려 하지만, 작품은 오히려 이러한 지도학적 시선을 방해하는 이상 징후들—블라인드 스팟, 글리치, 공백, 유령 같은 먼지폭풍—에 주목한다. 더스트 데빌(Dust Devil)이 반복해서 카메라의 시야를 가리고 이미지 데이터에 공백을 만들어내는 가운데, 작품은 화성의 보이지 않는 존재들과 행성을 관찰하는 카메라 장치 사이에서 일종의 ‘시각의 전쟁’이 벌어지고 있을지 모른다는 가설을 제시한다. 아카이브 기록과 사변적 허구를 교차시키며, 작품은 세계의 공백을 하나의 전술로 재해석한다.
