17min, HD, single channel video, b&w+color, stereo sound, 2018
Cosmic Kaleidoscope (2018) explores humanity’s fascination with light sources and imagery. This work revisits two monumental relics of 20th-century Western space exploration—the Apollo 1 fire accident and the Apollo 11 manned lunar launch pad—placing them within the context of Aztec mythology and the myth of the Moon Rabbit. Futuristic structures of the past, reminiscent of ancient temple ruins, stand as both products of the Cold War and reflections of humanity’s endless longing for the stars and the unknown. Images of stars shining in the darkness serve as a metaphor for the film medium itself, weaving a magical, kaleidoscopic experience.
