Time Paradox20min, 16mm, 2K LED display, color, stereo sound, 2024 Time Paradox (2024) questions how museology can represent and historicize worlds after catastrophe—prehistoric eras without humans. The museum, shot on S16mm analog film, is interwoven with 3D archaeological data, traversing the temporalities of different media. Created in collaboration with the Museum für Naturkunde (MfN) in Berlin, the piece unfolds through an encounter with a dinosaur tailbone, cataloged as “MBR 19.” Borrowing the fictional voice of “MBR 19,” the work follows its journey from prehistory to its excavation in Tendaguru, Tanzania, to its reconstruction as a museum monument, alongside the “time-travel” notes of Mr. Boheti, one of the Tanzanian excavators. Shadow Planet15min, video, b&amp;w+color, stereo sound, 2023 Shadow Planet (2023) revisits the vast image collection of NASA’s Mars archives recorded from 2004 to 2023. On this desolate planet with no human presence, what are the rovers, drones, and satellites actually seeing—and what events are unfolding there? Over nearly two decades of intensive imaging, Mars was colonized by the cartographic gaze, inscribed with countless place names. From these immense images, created to perfectly reproduce and systematize Mars, Minha Park turns instead to the anomalies that interrupt the smoothness of map: blind spots, blanks, image glitches, and ghost-like dust storms. These ghostly storms, also called Dust Devils, continually produce blind zones in the observers’ cameras and generate blanks in the image data. The work proposes a hypothesis that a war of vision may be unfolding between Mars’s invisible inhabitants and the camera apparatus observing the planet. As a tactic, the blanks of this world may keep expanding—whether we want them to or not. 쉐도우 플래닛15분, 싱글채널비디오, 2K, 흑백+컬러, 스테레오 사운드, 2023〈쉐도우 플래닛〉은 2004년부터 2023년까지 기록된 NASA 화성 아카이브의 방대한 이미지 컬렉션을 재해석해 만든 작품이다. 아무도 없는 이 황량한 행성에 살고 있는 탐사차들(rovers), 드론, 위성의 카메라들은 과연 무엇을 보고 이곳에서 어떤 사건들이 벌어지고 있는 걸까? 약 20년에 걸친 집약적 촬영을 거치며, 화성은 지도 제작 시선(cartographic gaze)에 의해 식민지화 되고 무수한 지명이 새겨졌다. 화성을 완벽하게 재현하고 시스템화 하기 위해 만들어진 방대한 이미지들 속에서, 박민하는 오히려 이러한 지도의 매끄러움을 방해하는 변칙성, 즉 사각지대, 빈칸들, 이미지 결함(glitch), 유령 같은 먼지 폭풍 등에 초점을 맞춘다. Discourse on Twin Mirrors 11min30sec, HD, 3 channel video installation, b&amp;w+color, stereo sound, Commissioned by SeMA Seoul Museum of Art, 2020 Discourse on Twin Mirrors (2020) is a three-channel video installation where the left and right screens confront each other at a 45-degree angle, at times functioning like facing mirrors or stereoscopic images. The work begins with the studies of the 11th-century physicist Ibn Al-Haytham, tracing moments when light and immaterial images tactically intervene in the physical world. The narrative of the work inverts the genealogy of Western optics symbolized by the camera obscura. The story of eyes, light, and darkness manifests the ambivalent desire for ‘observation and destruction’ embedded in optical devices, the mirage, and the history of 19th-century stereoscopic photography. The visuality discovered here reconnects with Medina Wasl, a replica of Baghdad constructed in California’s Mojave Desert by the 21st-century Hollywood film industry. The military simulation staged to reenact Baghdad via movie special effects is mirrored by real war in Baghdad 14 days later. Here, doppelgängers emerge where cinematic attractions become part of an actual physical war. This book is a short sci-fi story that interweaves NASA’s photo archives with a suspenseful narrative involving rover operators, Mars rovers, the Dust Devils of Mars, and its two moons. This work revisits two monumental relics of 20th-century Western space exploration—the Apollo 1 fire accident and the Apollo 11 manned lunar launch pad—placing them within the context of Aztec mythology and the myth of the Moon Rabbit. Futuristic structures of the past, reminiscent of ancient temple ruins, stand as both products of the Cold War and reflections of humanity’s endless longing for the stars and the unknown. Remixing Timespace (2016) explores humanity’s ongoing attempts to transcend two of our greatest limitations: time and Earth itself. What stood out the most in this work were the pieces of music humanity has sent into space. The video features music launched into space in 1970s, music videos, and even a track transmitted from Mars to Earth in 2013. Incorporating these sounds—along with references like Afrofuturism—the video takes the form of a nonlinear music video. If the Golden Record reflects the ritualistic and utopian dreams of space and the future that humanity held up until the 1970s, then Reach for the Stars (2013) symbolizes the industrialized fantasies of space shaped by tech corporations in the 21st century. Remixing Timespace - Tomorrowland yellow lighting, 2 monitor installations, 24min each, 4 b&amp;w printed photos, commissioned by Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, 2016 리믹싱 타임스페이스 24분, HD, 3 채널비디오, 흑백+컬러, 스테레오 사운드, 리움삼성미술관 커미션, 2016 〈리믹싱 타임스페이스〉 는 우리에게 가장 도전적인 한계점인 ‘시간’과 ‘지구’ 를 넘어서려는 인류의 계속적인 시도에 대한 이야기이다. 작업에서 가장 주목한 것은 인류가 우주로 보낸 음악들이었다. 영상 속에는 70년대 우주로 보낸 음악, 뮤직비디오, 2013년에 화성에서 지구로 전송된&nbsp; 음악들이 등장한다. 이 음악들을 비롯해, 아프로 퓨쳐리즘 등 다양한 레퍼런스를 담은 영상은 일종의 비선형적 뮤직비디오 형식을 취한다. Strategic Operations – Hyper realistic 19min, HD, single channel video, color, stereo sound, 2015 The deserts of California conjure mirages. These apparitions are not fake, but reflections of realities that actually exist somewhere else. With the rise of green screens and 3D VFX effects, the demand for physical SFX effects and sets has declined, leaving many of them redundant. Eventually, they are absorbed into military bases in the California desert for realistic war simulations. The desert can take many forms: sometimes a future planet where aliens roam, other times Baghdad during war, or even a place onto which hippie hallucinations are projected. The video delves into the bizarre illusions created by Hollywood special effects teams in Mojave Desert of California. This includes military bases like Medina Wasl, which simulates Baghdad, and various Hollywood film sets located around the desert. Here, military bases serve as filming locations, but at the same time, military training takes place on the same filming set where the cameras for the movie Iron Man rolled.
